Where can I get the morning after pill in Milton Keynes?

Emergency contraception in Milton Keynes: £25, confidential, no GP needed. Sooner is better.

Kenmakos Medical, a private pharmacy in Bletchley, supplies the morning after pill in Milton Keynes. You do not need a GP appointment or a prescription.

The sooner you take it, the better it works. Do not wait for a convenient time.

The consultation and the medicine cost £25 together. Walk-ins are welcome, and you can call ahead to check availability at busy times. It is for women aged 16 and over, and the pharmacist can usually supply it the same day.

How does the morning after pill work, and how long do you have?

The morning after pill is emergency contraception. It prevents pregnancy after unprotected sex or a contraceptive failure, such as a missed pill or a split condom.

It works mainly by delaying or preventing ovulation, which is the release of an egg. It will not work if you are already pregnant, and it is not the abortion pill.

There are two common types:

  • Levonorgestrel: works up to 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex.

  • Ulipristal (ellaOne): works up to 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex.

The pharmacy's service is built around the 72 hour window. If you are past that, say so at the start. The pharmacist can talk through what else may help.

A copper coil is the most effective option and works up to five days. It is fitted at a sexual health service, not at a pharmacy.

What happens at the consultation?

The consultation and supply usually take 15 to 20 minutes. It happens in a private room, so nobody can overhear.

The pharmacist will ask about:

  • When the unprotected sex happened

  • Where you are in your cycle and when your last period was

  • Any medicines you take, including herbal remedies

  • Your weight

  • Any health conditions

These answers decide which pill is right for you. Some medicines can make emergency contraception less effective. Weight can also affect how well it works.

Nobody is there to judge you. These questions are routine, and this is a very common reason to visit a pharmacy.

What do you leave with?

You take the tablet with clear instructions on how and when to take it. The pharmacist explains possible side effects, such as nausea, headache, tiredness or a change in your next period.

If you are sick within three hours of taking it, go back or call. You may need another dose.

You also get advice on what to do next. Emergency contraception does not protect you for the rest of your cycle, so you need a plan for the days ahead.

What should you do after taking it?

Your next period may be early or late. If it is more than a week late, or unusually light or painful, take a pregnancy test.

Use condoms until your next period, or until your regular contraception is working again. If you use hormonal contraception, the pharmacist will explain when to restart it and how long to use extra protection.

Emergency contraception is not meant to be your regular method. If you are using it more than once, consider a pill you take daily. Oral Contraception is available at the pharmacy for £20, and the pharmacist can discuss options during the same visit.

Who should not simply take the pill?

Speak to a doctor or sexual health service if:

  • You are under 16

  • You think you may already be pregnant

  • It has been more than 72 hours and you want the coil

  • You have severe abdominal pain after taking it

If you have a health condition or take other regular medicines, tell the pharmacist. You can get personalised advice on the day.

Why choose a private pharmacy over your GP?

Your GP or a local sexual health service can also supply emergency contraception. That is a good route if you want a coil.

Many people pay privately for speed. There is no appointment wait, and the pharmacy is open for walk-ins. The price is £25, covering consultation and medicine.

Common questions

Is it confidential?

Yes. The consultation takes place in a private room and the information stays between you and the pharmacist.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Walk-ins are welcome. Calling ahead helps if you want to check availability at a busy time.

Can I get it if I am 16 or 17?

Yes. The service is for women aged 16 and over. You do not need a parent with you.

Does it work if I take it late?

It works better the sooner you take it. Its effectiveness falls as time passes, so do not delay.

Can I get it from a pharmacy in Milton Keynes if I live outside the city?

Yes. Kenmakos Medical is in Bletchley, and patients come from across Milton Keynes and nearby towns.

Kenmakos Medical in Bletchley offers private, confidential emergency contraception, with walk-ins welcome and same-day supply in most cases. Call ahead if you want to check availability before you travel.
